Makeup by Color Season

Lipstick Recommendations by Color Season

Find lip colors that actually make sense for your palette.

You know your color season. Great.

Now you’re standing in front of about nine thousand lipsticks wondering which red is your red, if that mauve is secretly brown, and why every shade called “nude” seems to be a completely different color.

That’s where color analysis gets practical.

I’ve started building a Makeup Color Library by analyzing real lip shades for temperature, value and chroma , then matching those characteristics to the 12 seasonal color palettes.

These first recommendations include drugstore favorites, classic lipstick shades and prestige options from L’Oréal, e.l.f., NYX, Revlon, MAC and Clinique.

A quick note before you shop:

These are color recommendations, not full formula reviews. Some shades have been researched using brand information and available swatches rather than personally tested. Your natural lip color, skin depth and the opacity of a formula can all affect how a lipstick appears once you wear it. Think of these recommendations as a much better place to start, not a rulebook.

Clear Winter Lipsticks

Clear Winter shines in colors that are bright, crisp and saturated, usually with cool or neutral-cool undertones. Think vivid reds, brilliant berries and clear pinks rather than dusty or muted shades.

The Short List

What Does ⭐ Teal Pick Mean?

There can be a big difference between:

“This shade technically works for your season.” and “This is one I’d genuinely put near the top of your list.”

A ⭐ Teal Pick is a shade that stands out to me as an especially promising color match within the collection. It doesn’t mean the formula will work for every person. It means the color is one I think deserves extra attention.

Behind the Picks

How I Match Lipsticks to Color Seasons

I’m a Certified Color Consultant, and I analyze makeup colors using the same basic characteristics we use in personal color analysis.

🌡️

Temperature

Does the color lean warm, cool or somewhere in between?

Value

How light or deep is the shade?

Chroma

Is the color muted and softened, moderately saturated or bright and clear?

Those characteristics help me determine which seasonal palettes are the strongest match. And because color isn’t always super convenient, some shades sit right between seasons.

I’ll tell you when they do.

A Little Color Philosophy

Your Color Season Isn’t a Set of Rules

You don’t need permission from your color palette to buy a lipstick.

If you’re a Soft Summer and a screaming tomato-red makes you happy, wear the screaming tomato-red.

These recommendations aren’t about limiting your choices. They’re about helping you understand your choices.

Once you know

why

a shade behaves the way it does with your coloring, you can decide whether that’s the effect you want.

More knowledge. Less guessing. More color confidence.
