Where Did All of This Stuff Come From?!

Moving is difficult and at least half of my time is spent wondering, “Where did all this stuff come from?!”

Over the last few weeks I have been getting ready to move. Which basically means I’ve been doing a lot of cleaning, packing and storing stuff out of the way so that the house would look nice in order to sell it. If you’d like to take a virtual semi-tour, check this post.

You may or may not remember that I had a goal sometime back in June to complete something called the organization diet. Well, that was before this moving opportunity came around and suddenly everything had to be sped way up. Hopefully some of this is still getting accomplished in the process though.

If you’re like me, when it comes time to pack up and move, you are totally overwhelmed by the sheer amount of STUFF that needs to be packed up and physically moved. The place we’re moving to is only a five minute drive away so we are also storing some boxes at my parents’ house until they can be moved to the new place. Which means a lot of things have to be moved twice. But, I’m trying to take this opportunity to purge a lot of things that have just been sitting and collecting dust in the last five years that we’ve been in this house.

It’s not easy for me to get rid of things and I have a lot of collections. Sometimes I feel defeated just looking at everything that still needs to be done. However, we have managed to take two car loads of things to donations and to throw out at least as much which is something that makes me feel really good about all of this. Because who wants to move extra unwanted clutter into their new home? I’m really hoping to start out with less so that I’ll be able to keep us moving towards an organized, clean and comfortable home.

Moving from our current house is a bit sad, as it always is when you move from somewhere that’s been home for years. But it’s mostly an exciting and happy time. We feel grateful to be able to move to our place and inspired to make it a much better home for ourselves.

And, as you can imagine, I will be taking a lot of before pictures so that I can post some before and after photos once we have it looking the way we want it. The process of selecting paint colors has already taken a lot of my attention and I can’t deny that I’m more than enthused about that part of the whole thing. (More on this topic later!)

I don’t know what day we’ll officially be moving in yet but if all goes well, we will get some painting done this week and have everything out of our current house by August 15th. I’ll be keeping you posted!
